Philippe Chevalier, Approximating Queueing systems with loss models

It is much easier to compute performance measures for loss models than for queueing models. In practice systems that allow queueing are much more prevalent than loss models. We present some ideas on how to use loss models to derive approximate results for queueing systems. We applied these ideas to models for call centers and analyse the quality of the approximations.
